- Abstract
- Language policy, which comprises not only internal but also external constituents, was revived by China at the beginning of the XXI century. Starting from 2004, Standard Mandarin and Chinese culture have been promoted around the world through the chain of Confucius institutes. In 2013 a set of new research guidelines was proposed by Chinese linguists. It is based on Xi Jinping's “One Belt, One Road” strategy and for the first time in the history of Chinese linguistics has been oriented primarily to the studies of the most important languages of the neighboring countries, as well as of the cross-border languages of the national minorities of China.
