- Abstract
- Based on expert surveys in 2006 and 2014, the dynamics of the ethnopolitical situation in the North Caucasus are analyzed and a forecast is made regarding the level of tension in the region until 2020. The author substantiates the inevitability of aggravation of crisis processes in the near future due to the negative impact of corruption, deterioration of the socio-economic situation of people, and radicalization of religion. Given the “survivability” of these factors and the difficult foreign policy situation in which Russia finds itself, the authors speak in favor of a moderately negative scenario for the development of the North Caucasus Federal district (NCFD) as the most likely one.
