Abstract
The article deals with the problem of transition of graduates of educational institutions from study to work. The empirical basis is data from a survey of young people aged 15-29 years in 2012 in 11 regions of the Russian Federation. The analysis of factors affecting the success of the “study–work " transition is performed. It is established that professional education, primarily higher education, increases the probability of employment of graduates, significantly reduces the risks of unemployment and economic inactivity, and reduces the time to search for the first job. It is shown that a significant factor affecting the effectiveness of the transition is the combination of study and work. The success rate of the “study–work” transition is higher for young men compared to women; for urban residents – compared to those living in rural areas. It is proved that a special risk group in terms of the success of the transition “study–work” is formed by young people who have completed their education at the level of incomplete secondary school: they have a significantly higher probability of long-term unemployment.
