Abstract
Israeli sociologist S. N. Eisenstadt has reached a leading position in world sociology through the study of civilizations perspective, “axial time” and development of the concept of “plurality of forms of modernity” (“multiple modernities”). Eisenstadt believes that modernim and Westernization are not identical concepts; the Western model is not the only true modernist style, although plays the role of historical precedent. Variability of modernism, he said, explains the results of the interpenetration and combination of universal trends of modernization, traditions, different value systems, cultural assumptions and historical experience.
