Аннотация

Синдикат подпольной прессы (The Underground Press Syndicate, UPS), позже известный как синдикат альтернативной прессы (Alternative Press Syndicate, APS), представлял собой сеть контркультурных газет и журналов, образованную в середине 1966 г. издателями пяти ранних подпольных газет: The East Village Other, The Los Angeles Free Press, The Berkeley Barb, The Paper и Fifth Estate. Инициатором создания Синдиката стал Ален Коэн – редактор легендарного издания 1960-х годов «Оракул Сан-Франциско» (San Francisco Oracle). К 1974 г. большинство подпольных газет в США прекратили своё существование, но их влияние чувствовалось в течение всех 1970-х и в последующие годы, что привело к зарождению в небольших городах и пригородах прессы, предлагающей широкой аудитории альтернативные взгляды на местные новости, новости культуры, политику в отношении коренных американцев, экологии, молодёжных и антивоенных движений.
