- Drawing on oral narratives about the past of the historic town of Starodub (Briansk region), the article examines the ways in which certain historically meaningful elements of the urban landscape are perceived and interpreted. The author focuses on a range of situations such as silencing, forgetting, systematic failure to mention, among others.
