- Abstract
- The article discusses the early stages of the scholarly career of S.A. Tokarev (1899-1984), renowned Russian/Soviet ethnographer. The process of the scholar's becoming is traced through his years of studying at Moscow University, post-graduate studies at the RANION Institute of History, and work at the Communist Academy's Institute of History and at the Museum of Peoples of the USSR. It is during this period that Tokarev's main scholarly interests form (Australian and Siberian studies, history of religion, and history of ethnography).
