Abstract

By the end of the second decade of the 21st century, the United States would seem to have increased its influence in the Latin American region. However, this was by no means caused by any new Washington strategy during the presidency of D. Trump, which was significantly different from the line of his predecessors. In addition to the anti-Mexican rhetoric and criticism of his predecessor, B. Obama in almost all directions, and first of all, for trying to rebuild the world economy based on the formation of two “strategic rings” directly affecting Latin America, any long-term planning of politics in this region was initially not seen at all. However the “right turn” of the region’s political landscape, which began in the middle of the second decade of the 21st century, objectively expanded the possibilities of the USA in Latin America. While for one reason or another such left leaders as N. Kirchner (Argentina), U. Chávez (Venezuela), I. Lula da Silva and D. Russef (Brazil), F. Correa (Ecuador) left the political scene a number of regimes have emerged in the region interested in strategic partnership with the United States. For the D. Trump administration, which did not make any special efforts to such changes. this created a very favorable situation but neither George W. Bush nor B. Obama had not benefited despite their considerable efforts. In the geopolitical triangle of the United States – China – the European Union where Latin America has been for several decades, Washington got the opportunity to squeeze its competitors. However it was far from fully using the new situation. The article is to explore the reasons and possible consequences of such a situation, especially in conditions of the pre-election campaign in the USA.
