Abstract

The third year of testing by the coronavirus pandemic in the United States could not but have an impact on gender roles in the structure of relationships, especially within such a complex and fragile organism, in terms of relationships between individuals, as family unions. How do Americans see a family today, and what, in their opinion, is the role of a woman and a man in a modern family? To what extent are family values a high priority in the US? What does family mean in American life?

Today, American women are older for marriage and their first child than they were half a century ago, having won many more heights in the process of achieving gender equality and self-respect. However, the problems are not over. More adult women live in families of a married couple. Marriage remains the dominant form of union for women aged 25–54, with some preferring cohabitation. A significant proportion of both women and men have never married. The number of women who are raising their own children is also growing.

At the same time, the family remains in the United States the most important institution for the socialization of the individual, the historical transmission of cultural and moral values. The family as a social institution has its own development trends, developing and changing along with society, while remaining its most stable element, changing the emphasis in expectations from the family union. Therefore, it is not surprising that most Americans associate the meaning of life, first of all, with the family, in which the function of moral and psychological support of the individual comes first in family responsibilities, and the birth and upbringing of children, joint housekeeping, remain indispensable conditions for happy family happiness.
