Третий год испытаний пандемией коронавируса в США не могли не оказать влияние на гендерные роли в структуре отношений, особенно в рамках такого сложного и хрупкого, с точки зрения взаимоотношений между личностями, организма, как семейные союзы. Какой сегодня американцы видят семью и каковы, по их мнению, роли женщины и мужчины в современной семье? Насколько семейные ценности пользуются высоким приоритетом в США? Что значит семья в жизни американцев?
Сегодня американки в более зрелом возрасте, чем полстолетия тому назад, готовы для замужества и рождения первенца. Американские женщины завоевали многие высоты в процессе достижения гендерного равенства и самоуважения. Однако проблемы не исчерпаны. Растёт доля взрослых женщин, которые живут в семьях супружеской пары. Брак остаётся доминирующей формой союза для женщин в возрасте 25–54 лет, некоторые предпочитают сожительство. Заметный процент как женщин, так и мужчин, никогда не вступали в брак. Растёт и число женщин, которые сами растят детей.
При этом семья сохраняется в США в качестве важнейшего института социализации личности, исторической трансляции культурных, нравственных ценностей. Семья как социальный институт имеет свои тенденции развития, изменяясь вместе с обществом, оставаясь наиболее устойчивым его элементом, меняя акценты в ожиданиях от семейного союза. Поэтому не удивительно, что большинство американцев смысл жизни связывают, прежде всего, с семьёй, в которой на первое место в семейных обязанностях выходит функция морально-психологической поддержки личности, а рождение и воспитание детей, совместное ведение хозяйства продолжают быть непременными условиями семейного счастья.
