Abstract
December 15, 2012 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding philologist Yakov Karlovich Groth. His work in the field of the Russian language laid the foundation for the codification of Russian spelling. The article describes the biography of J.K. Groth and presented his most important works in the history of science on philology.
