- Abstract
- The article reveals the problem of relationship of authorities’ representatives and the representatives of the Russian science exemplyfied by an outstanding Russian academician M.V. Lomonosov. The phenomenon of relations of scholar and authorities is analyzed as a social phenomenon, connected with the historical and cultural features of Russia development, formation of the Russian education and science in the first half of the XVIII century. It is noted thatM.V. Lomonosov looked up to the authorities as a solution of social and moral issues, changing the attitude towards them from romantics to an objective understanding. Based on the analysis of notes, letters, reports of the scholar about opening of the Moscow University, the privileges for the Academy of Sciences, etc., interaction of the scientist with the authorities is revealed as having been based on the search for the support of his ideas among the Imperial Court. Especially productive was his cooperation with the I.I. Shuvalov, that led to the foundation of the Moscow University in 1755. It is noted that most of all the development of education and science in Russia was slowed down by the underestimation of the scholar’s merits by the Academic Office, miscomprehension of the essence of science, the role of education in the development of the country by the officials. M.V. Lomonosov tried to be more flexible toward them. One of the last works of the scientist “On a brief history of the Academic Office” is analyzed. It contains information that the Academic Office had been for many years the conductor of government control over the scientists. Intrigues, depriving of scientists, unreasonable promotions throughthe ranks are described in the work.
