Abstract
The author offers a critical review of the monograph by a prominent German sociologist and philosopher Jurgen Habermas The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere (Jürgen Habermas. Strukturwandel der Öffentlichkeit: Untersuchungen zu einer Kategorie der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft) published – for the first time in Russian translation – in 2016. This monograph, undoubtedly, contains an in-depth analysis of the intrinsic worth of the communicative foundations of society. Habermas heavily draws on the shaping of the public sphere from its statu nascendi till its profound crisis in mid-twentieth century. The German philosopher provides us with an inclusive examination of the multiple shades of connotation of the term public opinion – opinion publique – öffentliche Meinung in some European languages.
