Abstract
The possibilities of using the situational test in empirical sociology are analyzed. Attention is focused on the invaluable heuristic potential of situational methods, as well as on the problem of their adaptation to mass surveys. The author offers his own methodology for studying the cognitive resource as a “hidden mediator” of the processes of production of social inequality and social structure. The results of a pilot project aimed at verifying the validity of the research method and methodology are presented.
