Abstract
The image of the negative “other” plays an important role in strengthening the positive self-presentation of individuals and groups. Strategies for supporting and strengthening identities are particularly important in the case of transitional social groups. The paper analyzes the posts and comments of Russian bloggers living abroad. Their negative “other” is an emigrant who violates the norms of correct behavior, from the point of view of the authors of online diaries. Denouncing” My People", bloggers position themselves as worthy members of both the cultural and national majority of the country of their residence, and and Metropolitan areas, thus strengthening their social identity.
