Abstract

Some stereotypes concerning Varlam Shalamov fate and work are scrutinized. An attempt is made to explain the writer's attitude towards intelligentsia, his disillusionment in the people of the sixties and his rupture with A.I. Solzhenitsyn. Under the situation of ruin of Russian intelligentsia tradition Shalamov was doomed to loneliness.
