Abstract
The work analyses two main types of viewing the nature of time - the cyclic and the linear. Choosing the linear one, which highlights the future axiologically, we presuppose establishing two forms of eschatological thinking - of religious and of secular kind. It is shown, that secular eschatological thinking proves meaningless as having no original religious aims. The only explanation for the secular kind of eschatological thinking may be found in the countdown of time. The work sets a principal question: For the sake of what future event such countdown is being imposed upon the mankind, proclaiming purely secular values?
