- Abstract
- The idea that philosophical surprise is, unlike religious faith, scientific knowledge and creative inspiration, a fundamental anthropological phenomenon is substantiated. Philosophical surprise is a non-psychological emotion for it is rather the main characteristic of animal philosophicus than an epistemological feature of cognitive activity. This is the base of distinction between the proper philosophy born of the spirit of wonder and the rational metaphysics that is driven by the spirit of knowledge — the spirit that was inspired Aristotle.
