Abstract
The article is devoted to the reconstruction of the Pramordovian stress and its influence on the development of the vocalism of the first syllable in modern Mordovian languages. It turns out that the reflexion of the Proto-Uralic vowels of the first syllable in * a-, * o-, * u-, * ä-stems in Mordovian languages depends almost exclusively on the quality of the Pramordovian vowel of the second syllable and the place of the Pramordovian stress, which remained unchanged in the Moksha language.
