- Abstract
- The article is a study of the confessional as one of the principal factors in the process of shaping a unified state and ethnic identity of residents of Russia (including parts of the Ukraine and Byelorussia) in various historical epochs. The author describes certain directions and particular aspects of the integrationist activities of Moscow as a religious-political center, and discusses the importance of the Mother-of-God cult, common for the Eastern Slavic Orthodox world, in the politics of the capital.
