- Abstract
- Traditional clothes and textile articles, alongside other everyday life objects, play an important part in the organization and design of wedding rites. Being essential ritual elements, they accentuate the most significant ceremonial moments and sometimes may grow into mandatory requirements for a rite. The authors analyzes constituent parts of the traditional wedding outfit of the Chuvash in the Ural-Povolzhie region and attempts to interpret their functions, drawing both on archival sources and own field materials.
