Abstract
D.V. Pisarevskaia attempts a case study of the process of forming and development of role-playing games and argues that the process may be considered as subdivided into two stages. What is typical for the first stage is that the forming subculture's symbols come to be reflected both in the everyday space and in the space of the play. At the second stage, interestingly, they remain represented in the space of the play only. The author supports her argument by analyzing a number of ritual practices among the youth groups she studies.
