- Abstract
- The article deals with the plight of some representatives of the Imperial Navy after the revolutionary events of 1917 and the subsequent Civil War and Red terror in Russia, when one of the most brilliant layers of Russian society – the Russian naval officers – was destroyed. Many sailors became prisoners of numerous concentration camps organised in Moscow in the early 1918. New materials concerning the fate of Rear-Admiral A.P. Ugryumov are introduced. He had endured arrest and imprisonment but was released due to the efforts of his marine friends and subordinates who dearly payed for it later. A significant role in the liberation of Ugryumov was played by the first Soviet human rights activist, wife of Maxim Gorky Yekaterina Peshkova.
