- Abstract
- The concept of the «Ukrainian Division» was created in the nineteenth century by historians of the so called Sloboda Ukraine. This concept was used only to describe the situation in the Sloboda Ukraine and based on the realities of the second half of the eighteenth century. Sources from the fi rst half of this century say nothing about this military unit. One might presume that historians in the Sloboda Ukraine confused it with the so called Ukrainian Corps, but it was formed after the treachery of Mazepa and, with few exceptions, did not include regiments from the Hetmanate.
