Abstract
The author discovers the formation of collective VTsIOM (then – Levada-Center ), research and methodological principles of it’s work and the role T. Zaslavskaya in this process. The problems of monitoring in the formation of sociological research in Russia are analyzed. It is shows how on the bases the monitoring data of economic and social change Zaslavskaya developed the concept of the social mechanism of the transformation of Russian society.
