Abstract
If companies want to survive and thrive for a long time, they have changed and these changes will certainly include the review areas of our business. In the context of globalization, amplifying uncertainty and unpredictability of the environment, which is manifested in the emergence of new economic, scientific, technical and social conditions of the companies, one of the mechanisms of adaptation is to diversify the business, focused on building a sustainable adaptive strategies. Stories Royal Dutch Shell, British Petroleum, Exxon Mobil show that diversification is a central theme of the process of successful development of major oil companies. In most cases, successful long-term development of diversification is not an accident, it is a logical step in the expansion of resources and facilities beyond the existing business portfolio. This article reviewed the diversification of activities are considered a form of diversification benefits of diversification and the costs of diversification. It is concluded that the development of new business segments will help leverage the resources of companies in the unstable market conditions.
